Random Musings :: Aug 22-28

• 4-yr-old went to new dentist this week. Met Mr. Slurpee. Always thought his name was Mr. Spit Sucker.

• It really is okay to let your 4 yr old play in the kitchen sink for an hour. Sink full of water + pruney fingers = quiet time for Mommy!

• Notice: All rice will in future will be served and consumed by the 4 and under crowd on the deck!

• New extension cords cost $55... yes, mowing the lawn at 9pm has it's hazards.

• Cleaning the grass out of the pool, the neighbourhood cat poop out of sandbox and bird poop off trampoline is really eating into my days.

• You can take the girl out of the city but you can't take the city out of the girl... or the 24 gallons of Starbucks consumed, sadly.

• Starbucks coffee has 250mg of caffeine/med cup and Tim Horton's only 100mg. That might explain my distaste for Mr H's. Today I saw Starbucks Doubleshot Energy PLUS Coffee! Buzz buzz!

• Wishing my camera didn't need to be held together with duct tape. Thanks "Trouble is my middle name'.

• Mowing the lawn in flip flops when grass is wet is similar to the lotion on feet and then mowing. Things I've learned.

Out of the mouth of a 4-year-old

O--I like Hoggendogs ice cream now, Mommy!

O--Wow Mommy, thanks for buying this really great box for me!
Um, you're very welcome. No more presents till Christmas!

O--I'm a genius.

O--This sure is a hard days work.
(Picking raspberries for 1/2 hr)

O--There's a hamburger seed... I'm going to plant it and grow hamburgers so we can eat them everyday.
(sesame seed from the bun)

O--Oh oh, then we can plant a chocolate tree and a pizza tree and a Mommy tree... that'd be sooo cool.

Did you have fun with your Aunties and cousin?
O--Yes but they were here for a really looong time.

O--I don't feel good. My head hurts. Think it needs some chocolate.

O--Salsa makes my mouth on fire

O--Hey, I'm up to my old tricks again.

O--I love this trampoline, Mommy. I love you more now too.

Heard a lot around here: "I need a Band-aid" and "I'm gonna die. I'll bleed to death!"

Out of the mouth of a 4-year-old

O-- I'm going upstairs for a nap now.
Yes please!!

O--We should get a candelabra.
-Oh yes, we should get one.
O--Why don't we have one?
-because we're not pirates?
O--Because I'm not a king?
-That's why.

O--All done and ready to roll.

O--Can I put you down now? Don't go away.
(Owen on the phone with my Aunt... needed to fix his Lego.
Did it a few times to her!)

-Why don't you go up to your room and play?
O--Okay but I'm gonna be a mischief maker.

O--My friends laugh at me when I do silly things.
-So he does silly things. Wonder where he gets that from?

O--Can we go to school now?
-Last day and I slept in... ooh yes I did! (related to new discovery of 'help yourself to your juice in the fridge let Mommy sleep some more' routine)

I may have made a comment regarding his striped socks/sandals choice.
O--Socks and sandals is not dorky! What does dorky mean?
-Dorky means silly looking.
O--I'm dorky. I'm dorky. I'm dorky! Indeed!

Guest submission from my Aunt:
Auntie Shellie: Owen, this is a book for you about a bird called a Roadrunner.
Owen: Thank you (pause, thinking) Auntie Shellie, do you know why it's called a Roadrunner?
A.S.: No Owen, why?
Owen: (Very seriously) because it runs on the road!! And do you know what it wears on its feet?
A.S.: No Owen, what?
Owen: (my very clever nephew) ROAD RUNNERS!!!!
A.S.: Hahaha, I howled. I'm howling again, he kills me.

Weekday Musings :: June 8-12

• Stopping at the Tim Hortons drive thru for a dinner of Timbits and chocolate milk on your way home gets you one more point toward that Mother Of The Year award I'm guessing.
• Really need to stop swallowing my gum. Hard to stop a lifetime habit.
• When you're 4, everything tastes better with ketchup.
• Before you get 3/4 through making a lentil salad, you should probably make sure you have lentils.
• You have to be careful what words you Google. Just saying is all.
• It's okay that my 4-yr-old know all the words to U2's 'Sexy Boots', right?
• Finding brown half-eaten apples left there by a mischievous 1.5-yr-old in your running shoes is always fun.
• My life is a dramedy. I think I'll just write a book and give people a copy instead of the constant updates. Tiring!!
• I'll use the advance money to call them from the beach in the Bahamas to see if they like it.

Out of the mouth of a 4-year-old

-What would you like for breakfast?
O--Juice and broccoli

O--It smells like guinea pig in here. (Um... we don't have a guinea pig)

(Owen playing his 'video game'. Pretending a book is a DS or something... frantically wiggling his thumbs on it.)
O--I win I win. I shot you. Aaaah, I got shot by the cops.
-Brilliant use of imagination. *Sigh*

O--I have an idea. Let's not go outside for the summer. Too many bugs.
I swear he's a city kid.

O-- Emmett said he was going to marry you.
Wow, seeing as he doesn't talk that's quite a miracle.

O--You and Daddy are separated.
Yes we are. Did Daddy tell you that?
O--No. Hayden at school did.
Oh. Hmmm. Are you okay with that?
O--Yep.
Great.

Boys Are Weird

O wearing my laptop case on his head.

Same boy that is suddenly fussy about what he wears. Wears his rubber boots everyday and his winter toque in the hot sun...

On a non-related note he did say "Mommy you look nice today, actually." Will not read too much into the 'actually' part.... um ya.

Weekday Musings :: May 4-8, 2009

• When someone tells you they have fleas, you immediately get itchy and rethink future visits. I have other friends with spare rooms, thanks!
• Trying to decide whether to obsess over my lawn or the ant armies circling the perimeter
• Horoscope says: In your home, try to impose discipline, otherwise you'll be the first to regret your free-and-easy attitude. Mwahhhaaahahhaaa. Look out O. No more Mrs. Nice Guy! Sure. Just one more cookie.
• Just knew the neighbours would make their way over to 'chat' once they saw my cute blonde handy-man working on my front steps and not He Who Shall Not Be Named.
• Was at grocery store looking at fish oil trying to remember what I read and why I had added it to my shopping list... It helps ADD and memory. Must remember to put back on list.
• Hey, if you don't want your ex, I probably don't either. Thanks for the thought though.
• Giving a 20 mo. old a sucker and then forgetting he has it as he walks around leaving sticky gobs of drool everywhere is uh, not so smart.

Out of the mouth of a 4-year-old

O-My stomach is empty and my brain is full which is why I can't get to sleep

O-You hurt yourself a lot.
O-You spill stuff a lot.
O-You play my games backwards.
-Thanks for the observations mister!

O-Would you like it if a dinosaur crushed our house?
-Uh, no. (and I guess we should have that dinosaurs no longer rule the earth speech again)

O- Your spirit is in your heart you know.
-(And a whole lotta love.)
